The Latvian Ministry of Justice and the State Agency Insolvency Administration, in partnership with the World Bank Group, organizes the seminar on Corporate Debt Restructuring on December 2nd at the Hotel de Rome in Riga.

Objective of the Workshop: to promote the use of the new out of court guidelines and to provide training of users.

The workshop will provide an overview of the key principles of the recently adopted corporate debt restructuring guidelines and insolvency legislation in Latvia. The workshop will bring together leading international experts to share their knowledge on conducting out-of-court workouts and present industry best practice. Policymakers and stakeholders will also have the opportunity to discuss the important government role in promoting efficient debt recovery through the use of out-of-court workouts.  

The morning session will review the experiences of corporate recovery bankers and private companies in using out-of-court workouts. Participants will discuss the application of international leading practices to Latvia and the specific needs of Small & Medium Enterprises. Also the first session contains discussion on the role of an insolvency advisor in managing the process by which the parties enter into an out-of-court arrangement.

The afternoon session will look at the role of governments and courts in stimulating the use of out of court workouts and also contains a Case Study. This exercise will illustrate the application of the Latvian Corporate Debt Restructuring Guidelines in an out-of-court corporate debt restructuring process. The audience will gain understanding of how the process can be conducted and the benefits of using this mechanism.

Participants will include high-level government officials, central Bankers, commercial bankers and representatives from multilateral organizations, chamber of commerce, and business community.

The Workshop`s official language is English (with translation to Latvian).

The Workshop will take place on December 2nd at Hotel de Rome, located at 28 Kaļķu iela, Rīga and is scheduled to start at 9:00AM.
