About Us

Constitution Protection Bureau of the Republic of Latvia (CPB) is one of the three state security establishments in Latvia. The principal tasks of the Bureau include intelligence, counterintelligence, protection of the Secret of State as well as protection of classified information of the European Union and NATO. The CPB is collecting information and forwarding it to the executive officials for making decisions best serving the interests of the State. The Bureau does not engage in the investigation of crimes.

The CPB is supervised by the Ministry of Justice, and parliamentary control over it is exercised by the Saeima National Security Commission. General Prosecutor and Prosecutors specially authorized by them, on their turn, are entrusted with surveillance of compliance of the CPB’s activity with the law.

Mr. Jānis Kažociņš, the CPB Director, has been appointed to the office by the Saeima in May 2003 at the proposal of the National Security Council chaired by the President of State.

In April 2005 the SPB celebrated the 10th anniversary.
