About us
The State Joint-Stock Company Courthouse Agency was established on 12 February 1997 by the Cabinet of Ministers as the non-profit State Joint Stock Company. 100% of the shares in the Agency are hold by the state. Ministry of Justice acts as the shareholder, and the Courthouse Agency is managed by the Ministry of Justice. The equity capital upon foundation of the Agency made 500 000 lats.
On 1 November 2004, the Courthouse Agency was transformed into State Joint-Stock Company pursuant to Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers. At present, its registered equity capital makes 1 904 630 lats.
The Agency was established with the view to unburden the Ministry of Justice from a number of economical functions.
The main task of the Courthouse Agency is administration and effective management of the real estate possessed by the Ministry of Justice in a manner best serving the interests of the State, as well as performing other economical tasks formerly performed by the Ministry.
Initially, the Courthouse Agency was pursuing solely the tasks related to the management of real estate. Soon, in 1998, however, another two important tasks were added to the above-mentioned one:
- The Courthouse Agency was entrusted with implementing the project of Uniform Court Information System of the Republic of Latvia envisaging the establishment of up-to-date court information system based on advantaged technical tools, uniform legal proceeding software and effective infrastructure for exchange of data between courts, other law enforcement institutions and the community.
- The Courthouse Agency started publishing legal literature intended for different audiences, both professionals, law students and other inhabitants of Latvia not related to judicial matters.
The Courthouse Agency has expanded and developed since its establishment. The Agency is operating successfully both in management of real estate, introduction of uniform judiciary information system, pursuing publishing activities and legal education of society.
The Courthouse Agency is actively involved in strengthening of the rule of law in Latvia through the PHARE project Elimination of Corruption in Judiciary System launched in December 2001.
