Issuing certificates to reprised persons

Documents to be submitted by the persons applying to the Ministry of Justice for decision on granting of the status of politically reprised person to the victims of communist regime:

  1. copy of passport;
  2. document issued by the State Archives of Latvia or other public archives about the person’s service at the USSR filtration (inspection) or workhouse;
  3. certificate of birth (in case of person born at place of deportation or displacement). The documents to be submitted by persons applying to the Ministry of Justice for decision on granting of the status of politically reprised person to the victims of Nazi regime:
  4. copy of passport;
  5. document issued by the State Archives of Latvia, other public archives or official government authorities to certify the political repressions against the person;
  6. certificate of birth (in case of person born at place of displacement).

The foregoing also applies to the citizens of the Republic of Latvia domiciled abroad and applying to the Ministry of Justice for granting the status of politically reprised person.

If the name or surname of the person differs from that stated in the archives certificate, the documents have to be presented to verify that the certificate refers to the concerned person (such as certificate of marriage, court judgment on establishing of the legal fact, for example).

The person has to submit the above-listed original documents or certified reproductions thereof (copies, excerpts, transcripts, duplicates). Copies of passports do not need certification. Correctness of document reproduction may also be certified by the issuing institution or the institution to which a natural entity submits the document reproduction, or by Notary Public.

Documents have to be submitted in the State language. Documents in a foreign language have to be accompanied with translation into the State language.
