Dzintars Rasnačs participates in commemoration events of victims of totalitarian regime and international conference in Tallinn 23.08.2017
On Wednesday, 23 August, the minister of justice Dzintars Rasnačs participates in the international conference “The Legacy of the Crimes of Communist Regimes in 21st Century Europe”, dedicated to the day of remembrance for victims of communist and Nazi regimes.
Within the framework of the conference Dz.Rasnačs participates in the meeting of the EU ministers of justice, where the cooperation possibilities will be discussed for establishment of a special international institution in order to facilitate investigation of crimes of communist regimes. At the end of the meeting the ministers of justice will adopt a common notification.
At the same time high level experts will discuss the consequences caused by crimes of totalitarian and communist regimes to nowadays.
Within the framework of the day of remembrance the minister of justice will take part also in the official flower landing ceremony in Tallinn, at the Freedom Square, where commemoration of victims of totalitarian regimes will take place.
Since the European Parliament proclaimed 23 August as the Day of Remembrance for the victims of Communism and Nazism regimes in 2008, a series of commemorative international events for remembrance of victims of totalitarian regimes take place in various Member States of EU each year. This year they are organised by the Ministry of Justice of Estonia in cooperation with the Estonian Institute of Historical Memory within the framework of the Estonian presidency of the Council of the European Union.
