Panel discussion “Violence among youth - discussion, dispute, crime!”

Organized by:

The Ministry of Justice in cooperation with the State Probation Service.

Venue:

In presence: in the studio “Light Castle” of the festival LAMPA, Ziedonis Hall of the National Library of Latvia.

Online: The event will be rebroadcasted  on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Justice, On the Facebook page Esi līdzgaitnieks jauniešiem , on the TV 24 channel and on the website of the festival LAMPA.

Description of the discussion:

Nowadays one of the biggest issues among youth is inability to establish relationships and in case of need to settle conflicts, which quite often results even in a crime. It is important to remember that a crime may significantly affect the young person and future of a young person. When a crime is committed, law enforcement authorities and specialists have to perform complicated work, in order the parties involved in the crime could get back on track of the healthy life. Or we - broader society - have not reached the time to look into the essence of the problem and act all together before the crime has happened again?

Discussion is chaired by:

Discussion “Prisons 2.0: from imprisonment to correction”

The discussion is organized in the DELFI studio of the Conversation Festival LAMPA, in the premises of the editorial board of the portal Delfi.lv and unfortunately it is not possible to attend the event in presence.

Description of the discussion:

What is a modern prison? Work of the staff of the prison and skills required for that are currently experiencing significant changes, upon the change of the understanding on the punishment of deprivation of liberty from imprisonment to correction. What actually does the work in prison means and what is the role of that on the way to a safer society? What does society want - to temporary hide a criminal in the prison or change him or her? How to see in the person that the purpose of performance of the punishment is achieved? Focus of the discussion - isolation of convicted persons with sense: trusted forecasting of repeated crimes and the best choices for elimination thereof. Representatives of different professions and experts of the field, the daily life of whom is spent in work with offenders will share their experience during the discussion and will discuss the current events in the education process of the staff of prisons of Latvia.
