On Thursday, February 28, the Saeima supported the new Commercial Secret Protection Law and related amendments to the Civil Procedure Law, developed by the Ministry of Justice, in the third reading. The purpose of the Law is to ensure effective protection of the commercial secret, in particular against unlawful acquisition, use or disclosure thereof.

On Monday, January 28, Janis Bordans, the Minister of Justice, participated in a meeting of the Council for the Judiciary, where participants, among other things, discussed the procedure of nominating and appointing the court chairpersons.
More strict limitations for debtors of maintenance are supported
On Tuesday, February 26, the Cabinet of Ministers supported the amendments to the Maintenance Guarantee Fund Law, developed by the Ministry of Justice and the Maintenance Guarantee Fund, providing to impose the suspension of a permit for acquisition, bearing, implementation and storage of weapons upon debtors of maintenance. Additional amendments provide for changes that will facilitate fulfilment of the obligation of payment of maintenance and recovery of maintenance to be paid out from the State budget.
